Giving your children that head start
We all know that if you teach children from an early age they are more likely to keep up with that habit. So how can you implement healthy eating into your child’s life?
First off if you start eating healthy it makes your life easier as come lunch time you won’t be making 2-3 meals for the whole family so it will reduce the time preparing and making meals. Also your children look up to as a role model so if they see you eating fruit and vegetables they will assume they have to and the earlier you can get them doing this the better and it will become a habit.
When you make them lunch for school, why not simply add a piece of fruit into their lunch box as it’s quick, easy and a great snack. Other quick and easy snacks are sugar free yoghurts, natural yoghurt (either plain or you can add your own fruit to make the taste a little more interesting), home made popcorn or try raw vegetables such as carrots or celery (adding a dip or two to make it not so dull and boring). The last one tends to work better with the older teenager/adult years but you could try it with a young child, you never know until you try it.
Always check the packaging on pre packed foods as many manufacturers disguise fats and sugars under different technical names but they basically do the same thing or worse in some cases. It also seems to be getting easier as schools are starting to do their bit and introduce healthier eating so it will become more of a routine from an early age.
Not only will this make your child healthier it will reduce the chance of becoming overweight or obese and reduce the risk of such things as metabolic syndrome.
