Fruit purees to replace butter and margarine

Changing or substitute fruit purees for your butter or margarine would be a brilliant idea to cut your unnecessary calorie. Fruit purees aer available in single strenght, concentrate and blended forms. It can be manufactured with or without sugar, and processed with or without seed.

As we know, fat has an important role in determining the shape and texture of a finished cookie, and butter in cookies often causes them to spread, and producing crispness. Fat has also a lot to do with carrying the flavor and nutrients in baking, so because of that, you should not do away with it entirely, or you will just lose the flavor. Cookies with vegetable shortening do not spread and are more cake-like. With fruit purees, a crisp on a finished cookie will not be formed and you will have higher chance of more satisfaction with cakes and cookies made with fruit purees. Although other source stated that replacing margarine or butter with fruit purees will result in less dense of cake, but the advantage may even outweigh the shortcomings.

Let us see about butter and margarine. Both butter and margarine are having around 35 calories, which means roughly 4 gram of fat per teaspoon. Butter is an animal product, high with artery-clogging saturated fat and dietary cholesterol, this is bad for our heart since it will increase the risk of stroke and heart disease. But the advantage is, butter is a good source of fat-soluble vitamins of A, D, E and K.

Let’s move to margarine, it is made from vegetable oil, thus low in saturated fat and does not have dietary cholesterol. But the disadvantage is, it contains liquid vegetable oil which is hardened through a process called hydrogenation. Thus it has high content of trans fatty acid. This element is believed to be responsible for raising levels of bad cholesterol and also to lower levels of good cholesterol. It is the kind that offers a defense against artery-clogging fats, which makes trans fats worse than saturated fat.

Although in some cases it is still better using margarine instead of fruit purees, but still fruit purees offer a long term benefit in terms of calories cut, compare to still stick to margarine but as consequence you will deal with more amount of fat stored in your body. However, the most important aspect for all these things is not the ingredients, or those elements, but how you can implement a healthy life pattern.
